  1. My company;s back ground.
Wetherspoon own sand operates pubs throughout the UK.
The company aims to provide customers with good-quality
food and drinks, served by well-trainedand friendly staff, at
    reasonable prices.

I am pleased to report a year of further progress for the company, with record sales, profit and earnings per share before exceptional items. The company was founded in 1979 – and this is the 30th year since incorporation in 1983.The table below outlines some key indicators of our performance during that period. Since our flotation in 1992, earnings per share before exceptional items and free cash flow have grown by an average of 16.4 per cent per annum.

  4. FACTS AND FIGURES
The company opened 29 pubs during the year, with three pubs sold, resulting in a total estate of 886 pubs at the financial year end. The average development cost for a new pub (excluding the cost of freeholds) was £1.55 million, compared with £1.42 million a year ago, as we continue to increase expenditure on kitchens, customer areas and beer gardens. The full-year depreciation charge was £53.1 million (2012: £49.2 million). We currently intend to open around 30 pubs in the year ending July 2014.

    Local brewers support pub opening

The first ‘battle of the brewers’ event, at the newly opened Poulton-le- Fylde pub, proved a great success.

The Poulton Elk launched the seven-day event with a meet-the-brewer evening.
Gregory Bolton from Coach House Brewing Company, in Warrington, and Anne Jones, from Cumbria based Hawkshead Brewery, are pictured with duty manager Richard Parfitt, at the pub. A full range of ales from both breweries was served throughout the week, with four beers from each producer available at all times.

Cheshire Gold (4.1% ABV), Dick Turpin Premium Bitter (4.2% ABV) and Blueberry Bitter (5.0% ABV) were among the beers from Coach House, while the Hawkshead range included Lakeland Gold (4.4% ABV), Hawkshead Red (4.2% ABV) and Brodie’s Prime (4.9% ABV).

Duty manager Matt Jones said: “This event was the first of many planned. We hope to stage something similar every two to three months, showcasing different breweries and beers from across the region every time. “The week proved very popular as did the ales from both breweries and it was a great way to launch the new pub to the locals in Poulton.”
